WATAUGA COUNTY REGISTER OF DEEDS

NOTE: You may vote for one. Candidates are presented below in the order they appear on your ballot.

Reason for my Endorsement: I am supporting Shook for her unopposed seat in this race and praying  she has seen the light that God has cast on Mark Robinson over the past four years.

Amy J. Shook (Republican)

Shook is running unopposed for the office she’s held since the former register, Jo Ann Townsend, stepped down in January of 2015. Shook was appointed to fill out her term and then won election in her own right and has been reelected ever since.

Shook is a native of Watauga County and a graduate of Appalachian State University. She already had seven years experience as the Deputy Register of Deeds in Watauga County when she was appointed to fill out Townsend’s term.

Shook’s Facebook page says, “We are committed to serving all people fairly, with respect, and in an efficient manner.” By all accounts, Shook has done a good job as Register of Deeds. Most I contacted to ask about her especially praised the seamless operation of the Register of Deeds’ electronic filing system.

Nonetheless, I was surprised to find that Shook supports (supported?) Lt. Governor Mark Robinson by promoting his sermon at Winkler’s Grove Baptist Church in 2020.

It’s a hate filled sermon about “leftist liberals” being dumb, against climate change (“climate change scientists challenge God,” against the LGBTQ community, about schools promoting pornography in public schools, about killing unborn babies, and how those who don’t like the way this country is run by the likes of him should just get out. All to wild applause. You can start watching his sermon (if you have the stomach for it) at around the 19.37 minute mark in the video below.
