US HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, District 5

NOTE: You may vote for one. Candidates are presented below in the order they appear on your ballot

Reason for endorsement: Because Foxx needs to move on with her destructive MAGA self and because Hubbard is everything she isn’t.

Virginia Foxx, (Republican)

I’ve written narratives about Foxx for years. My earlier description of her is as true today as it was years ago: “Foxx is easy to satirize and mock, but she’s no laughing matter. In many ways, she’s the perfect complement to Donald J. Trump, since she’s always been about self-promotion and “what’s in it for me?” She’s mean by nature and selfish by nature and, I maintain, dishonest by nature. Many people laugh about the way she stuffs her handbag with free food at buffet events, but I’m not the only one to notice it’s an index to her character: “All for me, none for you. If it’s just lying there, I’ll take it!”Nothing ever changes for the better.”

Year after year she continues…. fighting against minimum wage increases, against certifying the electoral votes from the 2020 presidential election, keeping it mean criticizing HHS’ proposal to increase Head Start staff’s wages and benefits as “misguided,” holding steady that even in the case of rape, incest, or the health of the mother, no exception should be made to justify an abortion. Foxx voted against the Respect for Marriage Act, which codified same-sex and interracial marriage rights into federal law and consistently receives scores of “0” from the Human Rights Campaign.

Foxx voted against the Emergency Medical Services for Children Reauthorization Act; against the Active Shooter Alert Act; against the Women’s Health Protection Actand the Right to Contraception Act; against the Assault Weapons Ban Act; and against the Whistleblower Protection Improvement Act

And that record is just the tip of the iceburg.

She’s fully MAGA but refuses to hold town halls to answer to her constituents, and was even a no-show at the recent Chamber of Commerce candidate debates, but remains nimble enough to repeatedly be photographed at Donald Trump’s side during his disastrous four years, often howling with appreciation at anything he said that could be considered remotely funny.

Hubbard hits Foxx hard on his website, saying she incites controversy and promotes corruption.:

She is known as a ruthless lawmaker who has worked to dismantle public education and workforce protections as Chairman of the House Committee on Education and Labor. She has spent her time in Congress seeking to enrich herself and her cronies, promote a dangerous agenda of hate, and recently made headlines when she screamed at a member of the press to shut up for asking questions about the Republican agenda.

Hubbard attacks some specifics in Virginia Foxx’s voting record:

“Foxx objected to the certification of electoral votes from the 2020 presidential election. Foxx fought against a $7.25 minimum wage, and has fought against any additional increases. Foxx was one of only eleven members of Congress who voted against the aid package to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Foxx opposed the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, claiming that the violent murder was not a hate crime. She even claimed it was a hoax, before retracting her statements later that year. Foxx voted against the Respect for Marriage Act, which codified same-sex and interracial marriage rights into federal law. Receives scores of 0 consistently from the Human Rights Campaign. Co-sponsored a bill in favor of impeaching our Homeland Security Secretary.”
